Closure to the 2011 Season
First and foremost, we want to thank EVERYONE for their amazing support in the very successful 2011 season. Car counts have been up, stands have been filled, pits have flourished, and racing has been more exciting and competitive than it's been in over a decade. This year couldn't have happened without the help of our fantastic volunteers, chaplain, safety crew, scorers, flagmen, announcers, and most of all, Randy Jones for all of his work around SIR, as well as the track prep PERFECTION he's done this year. Hats off to Randy for everything he's done. He plays a major role in SIR's success and is extremely appreciated.

Next, we would like to let everyone know what's in the works for 2012. RACEcievers will be Mandatory from now on for all racers. This has been done to increase safety to all drivers, as well as to help the scorers and flagmen organize the show and increase efficiency of line-ups under caution laps. More information on these will be announced soon, but we intend on buying a bundle to be able to sell back to racers without them. Next, SIR will be getting some new dirt on the track surface to help maintain a great, racey surface for the seasons to come. There is also an SIR Track T-Shirt Design in the works to allow everyone to represent and show their support of SIR! Pictures and ways to purchase these will be up as soon as they are ready. And don't forget about the SIR Window Decals!

Palmisano Takes Down SIR Finale
Putting the wings back on for the night in style, Jake Palmisano took down the last win of this season in the Winged Outlaw Feature while Steven Russell returned to SIR in fashion after a long absence to close out the year by taking the checkered flag in the Nonwing Feature.

Another Week Added to Season
We wanted to make sure to let everyone know that SIR will be adding one last week of racing to this season's schedule, Saturday, October 8, to allow everyone to enjoy another great night of racing during this beautiful weather we've been having. So come help us close out our year in style for one last night of amazing racing before our gates close while we wait patiently for the 2012 season to arrive.

Duff Makes Haul South For Win
Clayton Duff made another long trip down to SIR to get a well-earned victory in the Winged Outlaw class Saturday night while Jake Palmisano took off the wings for his first ever Non-Wing win, afterwards putting the wings back on to join the tail of the 10 car Winged Outlaw field to make his way to a 3rd place finish. One more week has been added to this year's schedule for October 8th, come race with us one last time before we close the gates for the season!

Club Meetings Change Nights
Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that club meetings will now be moved to the first Friday of every month still starting at 7:00pm. It was decided that this would be easier for everyone to be able to attend. The next one will be Friday, October 7, 2011.

$5.00 SIR Window Decals

Now available at SIR's pit shack are your official Southern Illinois Raceway window decals. They are available in White and Reflective Silver for $5.00 each.

Miller Back in Victory Lane
In front of another strong field of cars and drivers, Joe B. Miller was victorious again in the Winged Outlaw Feature followed by Carson Short, Spencer Montgomery, and rare visits by Garrett Duff, and Chris Hunter rounding out the top 5. Other feature winners were James Lyerla, pulling off another win this year in front of a 12 car nonwing field, Jaime Hargraves taking the Restrictor win, Bill Maier leading the Dwarf Cars to the checkered flag, and Gage Saylor winning the Jr. Sprint class, while the Hornet feature will be made up next Saturday after getting rained out this week. Thanks again for all of you who make it out to SIR to enjoy our racing and facility. We still have a few weeks left this season before we close the gates and prepare for 2012. Come join us in the action!

Expecting More Great Racing
With POWRi not running micros this Saturday, it's evident that SIR is the place to be. The track and racing both speak for themselves in the fact that it's the raciest micro track around. With car counts averaging right at about 20 every Saturday night in the Winged Outlaw class, it goes to show how many cars continue to return. Whether it be the $500 to win payout (requiring 16 cars or more in the class), the perfect racing surface, or the amazing competition, SIR has been putting on great racing week after week. Dereck King has been tough to beat, winning 4 of the last 6 weeks while we saw Joe B. Miller take it, on a night of King's abscence, and Andrew Felker putting on a show to steal the win from Jacob Patton in a hard fought battle from a 6th place starting spot last week. To put in perspective the competition appearing at SIR, last weekends top 5, consisting of Andrew Felker, Jacob Patton, Kara King, Joe B. Miller, and Dereck King, all have POWRi Feature wins this year, with 6th place finisher Spencer Montgomery having two POWRi podium's of his own this year. It goes without saying, there's no easy wins at SIR. So come out and enjoy the racing with us as our season starts to wind down, with only a few weeks of racing left.

Felker to the Front From 6th
In a field many compared to a normal POWRi show, Andrew Felker bested them all from his 6th place starting spot, splitting previous leader Jacob Patton and a lapped car to become the new leader late in the 30 lap green to checkered feature with Patton finishing behind him in 2nd, Kara King following them with a great 3rd place run. The field full of other POWRi micro drivers Mike Hudson, Dereck King, Joe B. Miller (winning the night's nonwing feature), Kurt Westerfield, Paul Nienhiser, Spencer Montgomery, and POWRi Midget Points leader Nick Knepper piloting the 32 Triple X Chassis of Dereck King's father Rick. As always, the field was filled with strong local drivers, one of which, Jake Palmisano, making another run to the front of a starting spot deeper in the pack, showing once again how racy SIR continues to be.

SIR Public Apology
SIR would like to apologize for the altercations seen the last two weeks of racing. The situations have both been dealt with accordingly, as behavior such as that witnessed is not tolerated at Southern Illinois Raceway. We pride ourselves on our clean family atmosphere for racing and will not allow that to be disrupted. We hope these experiences have not kept anyone from wanting to return, as we invite you to come back and witness the greatest micro sprint racing around. Thank you for your understanding!

King Overtakes Knepper for 4th Win
POWRi Midget Points leader Nick Knepper stepped into the 1K Triple X Chassis of Kara King for the night in great fashion, set for a feature win for over half of the race until a caution bunched the field back up giving Dereck King what he needed to make the pass and get out in front for, yet, another victory, making this his 4th in as many trips in the last 5 weeks at SIR. It was a stout field once again, though not seeming to effect King's stride.

SIR Expects Strong Field of Outlaws

Ready for some more great racing at SIR this weekend. Heard we're going to have a really competitive group of racers. Joe B Miller returning to attempt back to back wins. Dereck King comes back to pick up where he left off two weeks ago with his consecutive wins. James Sanders is also tasting a win after finishing in a strong 2nd place last weekend. Jake Palmisano, making it a long way up from the back to take 3rd behind Sanders last week, is also itching for a victory. Another hunting for victory lane after a long absence from it is Brad McDaniel, grabbing his last win at SIR in June. Mike Hudson has been fast all year, pulling off his first POWRi win at Lincoln in June, and hopes to get a win down at his home track. Steven Schnapf took the win in the nonwing feature two weeks ago, now setting his sites on a winged victory this week. Three weeks ago, the nonwing victory was wrapped up by Jimmy Stearns, who will continue to battle for that first winged feature win this year. Cameron King hopes to kick out the bad luck and put his car to the front Saturday. Carson Short has been fast all year and is only awaiting his turn for a winged feature win after taking the checkereds last week in the nonwing class. The winner of Friday's preliminary portion of The 66, Jacob Patton, might make another appearance to take his shot at victory lane once again after a stellar season so far with POWRi. Shawn Sears is getting his new racecar figured out, having a great competitive run last weekend, looking to do it again Saturday. Howard Moore is also talking about making the trip up from Memphis, TN to get back in victory lane after being so tough to beat earlier this year. So it looks to be a night of great racing in the Winged Outlaw class Saturday night here at SIR, as we also continue to hold racing in the Jr, Restrictor, and Nonwing Outlaw Micro Sprint classes, as well as the Dwarf and Hornet classes. Come join us for more great racing. Prices and times are on the Track Info page.

Joe B. Miller Goes Uncontested

With a strong group of over 20 tough competitors in the Winged Outlaw Class, it was Joe B. Miller taking the win after taking an immediate lead from his starting spot on the outside of the front row, and never looking back. On a fast track with a cushion nearly to the wall, nobody was a match for Miller. He was chased almost all race by Indiana young gun Cale Thomas until tragically wrecking in turns 1 and 2, giving up 2nd place to James Sanders, and 3rd place to a hard charging Jake Palmisano coming from a midpack starting spot in the competitive field of drivers. Pulling double duty in both winged and nonwing outlaw classes was Carson Short, coming away with the nonwing feature victory.

King Trio Sweeps Winged Feature
Dereck King becomes accustomed to victory lane at SIR after winning his 2nd Winged Outlaw feature in a row while father Rick and sister Kara follow him across the checkered in 2nd and 3rd respectively in front of the 14 car field. Another great story for the night wasStephen Schnapf pulling off his first feature win at SIR in the Non-Wing Outlaw class uncontested. Randy Jones continues to provide us with a fast, multi-groove track to race on week after week. Come join us next weekend while POWRi is off for the great weekly racing and payout around!

King Wins Memorial In Impressive Fashion
Amongst a large field of tough competitors for the annual Terry Sprague Memorial, Dereck King pulled off a win after a 10th place start deep in the pack to run down young gun Cale Thomas and veteran Paul Day with just a few laps to go before receiving the checkered flag. Thomas came across in second, Day behind him in third. Jimmy Stearns also pulled off an impressive win while making a rare appearance in the non-wing class Saturday night with an, also, competitive group of drivers.

Trial Payout Extended For Rest of Season
After some testing of a revised payout for SIR's weekly races, it has been voted to extend the use of the new purse through the rest of the 2011 race season due to its overwhelming popularity. As well as that news, we also announce the annual Terry Sprague Memorial Race coming up Saturday, August 13th, 2011. It's a great race to pay respect to a man widely missed, as well as support The Lighthouse Shelter for the homeless in Marion, Illnois.

Continuing to See New Drivers
SIR saw more new drivers this past Saturday night, one being Colten Cottle from Kansas, Illinois who took home the victory in the Wingless feature. Along with Cottle, other feature winners were Dylan Sexton in the Restrictor class, Wyatt Bracken in the Junior Sprints, Greg Lambert in the Dwarf class, Justin Jones in the Hornets, and Jacob Patton taking the checkered in the Winged Outlaws.

Christopher Bell $10K Richer
After making the long haul from Norman, Oklahoma, the trip proves worth it for the 16 year old shoe after getting the victory in The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial, along with the $10,000 grand prize! Bell topped a field of 113 entrants who all fought their way into a phenomenal 24 car, 40 lap battle to the checkered flag!

With the Holiday Inn Express out of rooms for the weekend, all looking for rooms have been directed to their partner hotel next door, the Quality Inn & Suites, also doing a special discount for anyone coming for The 66! Give Amy a call at 618-993-6221 to find out the, even lower, rates they are pricing their rooms at! Show them the same support they're giving us by enjoying your stay for The 66 with them!

With less than a week to go, more sponsors continue to join, this time as a joint effort by Water Furnace and D&C Heating and Cooling. Words can't express our appreciation of their help and support to ensure The 66 is as successful as possible. Together, they have not only joined in as a Silver Sponsor, but have also sponsored a Heat Race each night, as well as became the official sponsor of Saturday Night's 6 Lap/6 Car 66 Dash For Cash! Thanks again for your support!

Immediately following the cancellation of The ASCS2 Microsprint Races in Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX, originally scheduled the same weekend as The 66, more entries began rolling in. One in particular was that of 2011 Winged and Wingless Outlaw Tulsa Shootout Champion Blake Hahn, grandson of famed Chili Bowl promoter Emmett Hahn. Blake was also the 2010 ASCS2 Outlaw Champion, as well as the 2010 Oklahoma Nationals Outlaw Champion and looks to take down another big title to add to his list of accomplishments. Also in his pits he brings with him Brandon Hahn and Matt Ward, both of Oklahoma as well, putting the entry list for The 66 up to 73, with many more expected to appear.

ASCS2 Shows Support for The 66
With great pleasure do we announce the cooperation of another popular microsprint series, ASCS2. To show their support, they have dropped the weekend of June 24-25 off of their schedule to allow their drivers the chance to compete at SIR for The 66's $10,000 grand prize! It's absolutely flattering to have such great support from another prestigious organization like the ASCS2. We look forward to their competitive drivers who will be making the trip out to Marion, Illinois.

The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial sees more support, this time from popular Little Rock, Arkansas track I-30 Speedway. Promoter Tracey Clay, in cooperation with The 66, chose to keep the 600cc Winged Outlaw Microsprints off the schedule from their normal Saturday Night weekly racing in hopes of helping draw a larger group of cars and fans to SIR for a great weekend of spectacular racing. In return, we hope to redirect as many racers and fans as possible to the spectacular 600 Nationals at I-30 Speedway July 15-16 for an amazing $3,000 to win event at the fast, racey, high-banked clay 1/4 Mile speedway! Many entries from The 66 venture down to Little Rock for this great show such as the likes of Travis Senter, Joe B. Miller, Ryan Greth, Tyson Hall, Rick, Dereck, and Kara King, Scott Sawyer, Billy Lawhead, Frank Flud, Eric Wright, Jake Rosario, Todd Kirkman, and more. The weekend is always full of great racing and tough competition. Check it out!

The 66 hits a significant 66 entries this week with the addition of 21 year old USAC Sprint and, now, Midget shoe Hunter Schuerenberg, orginially of Sikeston, Missouri, but now residing in Indianapolis, Indiana. Schuerenberg brings in much momentum and confidence to The 66 fresh off of a big USAC Sprint win at New Egypt Speedway, in New Eqypt, NJ, as well as an impressive 5th place finish at I-69 Speedway in Gas City, IN in his first ever USAC Midget appearance after qualifying 2nd and winning his heat race. Hunter will be piloting the Hollingsworth Performance Yamaha powered Phillips Pro Cycle 32x PMP Chassis owned by Scott McDaniel, father of The 66 promoter Brad McDaniel. Another big mention is The Official 66th entry for The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial, local POWRi Midget driver Shane Cockrum in the FTZ Honda powered 6R Triple X Chassis owned by Jason Rone.

Entries for The 66 Reaches All New High
As the long Memorial Day Weekend brought pre-entry to a close for The 66, many racers rushed to get theirs in to beat the deadline. Among the long list of additions are popular family of hard to beat racers originally from Vienna, Illinois, the King's. Kara is coming off of her best season yet, looking to continue putting together strong finishes in her Kawasaki powered Triple X chassis. Dereck, 3 time POWRi Microsprint Champion, will look to take down his greatest victory yet in his FTZ Honda powered Triple X. The father of these two, microsprint legend Rick King looks to get back in the microsprint again after a long stretch seldom appearing behind the wheel. He too will be wheeling a Kawasaki powered Triple X to take down his first ever $10,000 grand prize. Rick ran wheel to wheel with Mike Phillips throughout the years, as well as maintained a good friendship with him, making this race that much more meaningful to conquer.

More Support As The 66 Approaches
A big thanks goes to Masters Auto Sales & Towing for joining in the support of The 66. They wanted to help make this race as great as possible by being involved as much as they could. One more proud sponsor who this amazing event couldn't exist without. Check them out online at MastersAE.net and don't forgot about their 24/7 towing. Mention their ad for 10% off towing! Located in Carterville, Illinois.

More Tough Competitors Enter at Race 4 Life
Pre-Entries for The 66 continue to pour in from drivers running the Race 4 Life. Tough competition by the likes of Oklahoma's Frank Flud, Christopher Bell, and Billy Lawhead, and the POWRi Microsprint Points Championship runner-up from Carl Junction, Missouri, Andrew Felker. Amongst the new entries were also the always tough Ryan Guyett of Springfield, IL, and the impressive young Zach Hampton of Clayton, IN. This list continues to grow strong with a number of drivers who all have a chance at the appealing $10,000!

Tough PA Racer looks for second $10,000 Prize
In 2006, Ryan Greth, of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania took home his only $10,000 microsprint racing victory by taking the checkered flag at the Super 600 Showdown. Other respectable feats Ryan has accomplished have been his 2007 Kevin Golbrecht Memorial win and the 2010 600 Pro Series Championship. Now, Greth looks to add another significant title to the list as he competes for another $10,000 in The 66 Mike Phillips Memoiral.

2010 POWRi Champ Up For the Challenge
Blue Mound, Illinois driver, and most recent POWRi Micro Series Points Champion, Jeremy Camp has been hard at work already in 2011. Trying to pick back up where he left off last season in attempts to take down The 66's $10,000 prize, Camp will be piloting his brand new Gene Bartosik Motorsports FTZ Carbureted Hollingsworth Performance Yamaha Powered Pace Chassis. Pushing him to his Championship last year were 7 POWRi Feature Wins, but  Jeremy knows none of them would compare if he could get to victory lane at The 66.

More Support From Local Sponsors for The 66
I would like to welcome and thank the newest supporting sponsor of The 66, The Bank of Herrin! They have been extremely helpful in ensuring the success of The 66, and I can't thank them enough. One more sponsor that, without, none of this would exist. So thanks again to The Bank of Herrin! Visit them at their locations in Herrin, Marion, Energy, Cambria, and Carterville to find out about their Rewards Checking, and anything else they can do for you! Short Dominates Both Outlaw Classes at SIR
Carson Short of Marion, Illinois is really letting his SIR experience show as he wins both Winged and Non-Wing Outlaw Features Saturday, May 21 here at Southern Illinois Raceway. Feature results can be found on the Schedule and Results Page.

Not only will Tracy Fenton be bringing along Fenton's Custom and Collision on board for support as the newest sponsor of The 66, but he will also be the Official Fuel Vendor, selling VP Fuels on site throughout the event. No room in your hauler or trailer for that extra fuel for the weekend? No worries, come see Tracy and he'll make sure you make it through the weekend without going empty! And thanks again for getting involved through Fenton's Custom and Collisions of Elkville, Illinois! Don't forget about their 24 Hour Towing, 618-542-2383.

As the race approaches, sponsors continue to jump on board after seeing the potential in The 66, and Subway of Carterville, Marion, and Benton are no different. They recently showed interest in helping support this grand event, honoring the life of a great man and local racer, Mike Phillips. Their involvement is greatly appreciated, and is just one more step towards making The 66 the greatest race in the country.

One of the most popular names in microsprint racing, whether it be in the U.S. or Australia, 2 time winner of I-30's 600 Nationals, in 2006 and 2008, Travis Senter of Osceola, Arkansas joins the growing list of tough competitors heading to Southern Illinois Raceway June 24-25 to take a shot at winning $10,000 in The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial. Housecar driver of the FTZ Yamaha powered Stallard Chassis, Travis is also a 3 time Austalia Oval Express Champion, another extraordinary feat. He still knows how tough this event will be on SIR's tight, racy, 1/8th mile bullring in Marion, Illinois.

The weather did everything it could to keep the Saturday night racing from happening, but lucky for Evansville, Indiana's Trent Beckinger, we were able to successfully squeeze the program in, thanks to great track work from Randy Jones, and all of the volunteers who helped roll the track back in. After Trent took the win in the dash to gain the pole for the feature, there was no looking back for him as he picked right back up where he left off last year, seeming to have the high-banked 1/8th mile bullring of SIR figured out. Millersille, Missouri's Joe B. Miller finished a strong 2nd, with Dalton City, Illinois' Jake Palmisano running a respectable 3rd place in front of a strong field of competitors. Thanks to everyone who stuck it out along with us tonight despite the terrible weather.

T-Shirts are in! They will be available for purchase at POWRi's apparel trailer, Phillips Pro Cycle in Carbondale, Illinois, as well as directly through Brad McDaniel where ever he may be racing at. All profits will go into the budget for The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial, no matter where they are purchased from.
Thanks to Neil Quick and R&R Racewear, The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial proudly presents the 2011 race shirt! You can't get much better than this! Neil was extremely patient and cooperative with all requests. He took in what I was looking for and presented me with more than I could've ever imagined. I expected greatness, but R&R went above and beyond expectations. You can't find better service anywhere else.

First off, thanks to Joey Rosario for our newest supporting sponsor of The 66, Voyager Home Systems.  Located in Edmond, Oklahoma, it's Voyager Home Systems mission to provide the best possible design, sales, installation, and service of a long list of home audio and video specialties. Thanks for the help and support, The 66 couldn't be what it is without you!

2010 600 Nationals Champion Joe B. Miller of Millersville, Missouri, was patiently awaiting the Pre-Entry forms since the day The 66 was spoken of, along with his father, Rick Miller.  They are both excited to take their all new NPS Racing Engines Kawasaki powered Hyper chassis to SIR to compete for The 66's $10,000 Grand Prize amongst other competitive Pre-Entries! Check them out!

Hampton Motorsports and Pace Chassis
Support The 66 Through Joint Sponsorship
Scott Hampton of Hampton Motorsports made it a point to not only get involved himself, but made sure Pace Chassis showed their support as well for this spectacular event. Hampton Motorsports drivers Ryan Langston and Scott's son Zach Hampton have both been very successful so far in their Pace Chassis, and look to give their best shot for $10,000 at The 66.

Mike Phillips' long time friend, Kevin Klaine, was pleased to be his banker ever since Mike founded Phillips Pro Cycle. Now, as Senior Vice President of First Southern Bank, Klaine is also excited to be involved in paying respect to the greatly missed Phillips.

Stearns Sales Jumps On Board To Show Local Support
Without hesitation, Jeff Stearns, of Stearns Sales, jumped at the opportunity to be involved with such a large local and meaningful event.  Stearns Sales, Southern Illinois' premier supplier of quality accessories, performance parts, trailers, and atv's, played a large part in ensuring the success of The 66.  They have already been a major role in different Mud Bog Competitions throughout the region, but this is their first chance to get involved with the microsprint racing community.  For all of those racers out there looking for temporary use of an enclosed trailer, maybe to leave your equipment at the track for a two-day race such as The 66, Stearns Sales even has enclosed trailers to rent!  Check out StearnsSales.com for more information on trailer rentals and much more!

Engler Machine & Tool Proudly Supports The 66
As The 66 nears, sponsors continue joining in to show their support for, what could end up being, the biggest microsprint race in the country! The most recent addition we have to thank for helping make The 66 Mike Phillips Memorial race possible is Engler Machine & Tool. Tim Engler has recently expanded his, already well established business, into microsprint racing, quickly jumping on top with the proven performance of his mechanical fuel injection for these 600cc powerplants. Beyond fuel injection for micros, Engler Machine & Tool has engine and chassis dyno services and much more. Check it all out at EnglerMachine.com!

RaceBumpers.com Takes On Role As Newest Sponsor!
Still months away, The 66 continues building momentum as sponsors continue to get involved! RaceBumpers.com is confirmed as the newest addition to The 66's group of sponsors. RaceBumpers.com continues its reputation as the obvious choice for your bumper and nerf needs when it comes to a large variety of different racecars including the 600cc Micro Sprints! They will also be providing a number of drivers with coupons and/or gift certificates for their accomplishments. I would like to thank Jason Harms and Flea Ruzic personally for getting RaceBumpers.com involved with The 66, one more step towards being the greatest race in the country!

Purpose Wrecker Jumps On Board As Third Sponsor!
The third sponsor of The 66 has been the biggest contributor yet, wanting to make sure to fully show their support as we welcome Purpose Wrecker of St. Louis, Missouri! Purpose Wrecker is the #1 place in the country to find new and used tow-trucks, wreckers, and rollbacks! A big thanks goes out to Ken Malpocker for his involvement in The 66 through Purpose Wrecker !

The 66 Proudly Welcomes Another Great Sponsor!
The 66 was pleased to announce its second sponsor, Afco ! Not only has Afco graciously decided to get involved as a sponsor, but they have also guaranteed to be present at The 66 with their Shock Dyno Truck. Sounds like everyone running Afco Shocks will have some extra help to get ahead of the competition!

Starting The 66 off right was Senter Farms, jumping on board to show their support as our FIRST SPONSOR! Thanks to both Travis Senter Sr. and Jr. for their involvement in The 66!

Check out our Sponsor Page for sponsor logos and links to their websites.
